WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) issued the following statement today on the nomination of Linda Schwartz to be Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Policy and Planning at the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

“Linda is a dear friend and I can think of no one better for the job than her. As a Vietnam veteran she knows firsthand the struggles veterans go through. She herself was gravely wounded in 1983 and had to undergo years of arduous recovery from a traumatic brain injury. And as the first woman to serve as Connecticut’s veterans affairs commissioner, Linda helped blaze a trail for the women who will follow in her footsteps.

“Linda Schwartz is an inspiration to me. I have learned so much from her. She has helped me to understand the personal toll that veterans and their families undergo when returning from war. And she has helped all of us understand the unique needs of women veterans. I hope the Senate will act quickly to confirm Linda so that she can take the great work she has done for Connecticut’s veterans nationwide.”
