Urges Them to Implement Similar Procedures for Poultry

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today applauding the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s new procedures for tracing contaminated ground beef to its source. She urged them to implement a similar traceback procedure, as it is commonly called, for poultry as well. DeLauro is a former Chairwoman, and current senior member, of the subcommittee that is responsible for funding USDA.

“USDA’s new traceback procedures are a step in the right direction and will enable faster recalls, saving people from the effects of E. coli O157:H7. But they should be taking similar actions for poultry processing to avoid foodborne illnesses like Salmonella and Campylobacter, and bad actors such as Foster Farms. I will use my role on the Appropriations Committee to fight for the resources USDA needs to carry out this new plan.”
