DeLauro Announces nearly $10 million for Improvements to Public Housing through Recovery Package

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that public housing authorities in eight towns, including Ansonia, New Haven, Middletown, Milford, Naugatuck, Seymour, Stratford, and West Haven, will be able to spend $9.9 million in federal funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to address long-standing improvements to public housing units, create jobs, and increase energy efficiency. In addition to this funding through the Public Housing Capital Fund Program, the Department of Housing and Urban Development will shortly make an additional $1 billion available in capital funding to housing authorities that will be awarded through a competition.

“With this funding we will be able to make critical improvements to public housing that will modernize these units, increase their energy efficiency, and reduce their long-term operating costs. And in doing so, we will also create job opportunities in these communities,” said DeLauro.

The $10 million will be divided among the following towns:

· Housing Authority of the City of Ansonia $ 592,122.00

· Housing Authority of the City of New Haven $6,045,769.00

· Middletown Housing Authority $ 859,777.00

· Milford Housing Authority $ 557,907.00

· Naugatuck Housing Authority $ 212,023.00

· Housing Authority of the Town of Seymour $ 104,159.00

· Housing Authority of the Town of Stratford $ 603,523.00

· West Haven Housing Authority $ 935,612.00
