DeLauro Announces Recovery Funding for Community Health Centers

Centers in 3rd Congressional to receive nearly $1.63 million

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that Connecticut will receive nearly $3.8 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Community Health Centers, including $1.63 million for those in the 3rd district. This funding for Connecticut will allow community health centers to expand services and will result in an estimated 68 new or retained jobs, 20,143 new patients served, and 7,944 new uninsured patients served.

“Community health centers are one of the smartest investments we can make in our health care system,” said DeLauro. “They provide high-quality, cost-effective services that have been proven to keep people out of emergency rooms and save money, including significant savings to the Medicaid program. Not only will this funding help community health centers increase their services during these difficult economic times – it is a down payment on a stronger primary care system as we move forward with health care reform.”

Funding through this grant program includes the following community health centers in the 3rd Congressional District:

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER, INC. MIDDLETOWN $670,628

FAIR HAVEN COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC, INC. NEW HAVEN $281,251

HILL HEALTH CORPORATION NEW HAVEN $398,511

STAYWELL HEALTH CARE, INC. WATERBURY $270,184

Community health centers offer "one-stop shopping"—primary and preventive health care visits, lab services, dental and mental health services and case management are conveniently located, coordinated and tailored to meet the patient’s needs. Every year, more than 200,000 patients from across the state receive their care from Connecticut’s community health centers. Nearly one-third of patients are women and one-third are children. The $1.63 million being awarded to community health centers in the 3rd District will make a significant difference to health centers that are already seeing an influx of patients who have lost their health care coverage.
