Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauroInauguration of George W. BushWASHINGTON - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today released the following statement on the inauguration of George W. Bush to his second term. “Every presidential inauguration is a symbolic event - a day to be proud of our republic, to celebrate its strength and our democracy. It marks a new beginning, one in which I am delighted so many people traveled from Connecticut to participate. “This 55th inaugural is particularly poignant given the many challenges our country faces and that so many of our servicemen and women remain in harm’s way overseas. After the ceremony ends, it will be time for the president to get back to work, rebuilding international alliances and accelerating reconstruction in Iraq while also revitalizing our economy, schools, and health care system here at home. “These are but a few of the challenges before President Bush in his second term, and I hope he will make a good faith effort to reach across party lines to meet them.”
