DeLauro Announces $750,000 in Drug Control Policy Awards
New Haven, CT (September 20, 2017) – Today, U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) announced Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grants totaling $750,000 for communities in Guilford, Hamden, Durham and Middlefield, Milford, Naugatuck, and Stratford. The grants are intended to provide local community coalitions funding to prevent youth substance use, including prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol.
"Our nation is in the middle of a serious drug crisis, fueled by the epidemic of opioid abuse. Last year alone, Connecticut lost hundreds of our citizens to drug overdoses, and thousands more are in recovery," said DeLauro. "The crisis has only worsened and the drugs have become more potent with time. Young people in our communities must be kept healthy and safe, which is why I am proud to announce grants that will support local coalition efforts to prevent youth substance abuse."
The following organizations in Connecticut's 3rd Congressional District will receive awards:
- Naugatuck Youth Services, Step Up Naugy, Naugatuck, CT $125,000
