DeLauro Calls for Action on Gun Safety Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC (August 28, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement marking the 21st anniversary of President Ronald Reagan signing into law gun safety legislation that banned armor-piercing ammunition.
"Twenty-one years ago today, President Reagan made all Americans safer by outlawing armor-piercing ammunition, so-called ‘cop-killer bullets,'" said DeLauro. "That sense of bipartisan concern for gun violence in our communities is now sorely missing from the lawmaking process.
"We must not let up in the fight for common sense solutions to the gun violence epidemic," continued DeLauro. "Reforms such as universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, allowing research on gun violence, and keeping guns out of the hands of potential terrorists would all make a difference. As Members of Congress, we have a moral responsibility to take action and help save lives, just as we have in the past."
