DeLauro Congratulates Jahana Hayes, 2016 National Teacher of the Year

NEW HAVEN, CT (April 28, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement congratulating Jahana Hayes of Waterbury, Connecticut for being named the 2016 National Teacher of the Year. Hayes is a social studies teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury and started her career at James Hillhouse High School in New Haven. She is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University.

“Congratulations to Jahana for being named the 2016 National Teacher of the Year! As someone who has overcome extraordinary challenges while chasing her dreams, Jahana encourages her students to aim higher and go further,” said Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. “Jahana is a world class leader in education, whose work in the classroom and in the community is unparalleled. Jahana, thank you for all you do to make Connecticut schools some of the best in the nation and for challenging our students every day.”

DeLauro is the Ranking Member on the subcommittee responsible for funding federal education programs.
