DeLauro Statement on President-Elect Trump Nominating Tom Price as Secretary of HHS
WASHINGTON, DC (November 29, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding news that President-elect Trump has nominated Congressman Tom Price as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
“President-elect Trump’s decision to nominate Congressman Price as Secretary of HHS will result in the complete undermining of our nation’s health care system. As a leader of the movement to repeal the Affordable Care Act and to privatize Medicare, Mr. Price will work alongside President-elect Trump to strip health care from millions of Americans.
“From covering Americans under the age of 26 and preventing insurers from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, to giving millions of more women access to affordable, lifesaving care, the ACA is working. President-elect Trump and Mr. Price will be making a serious mistake in undermining the ACA and I strongly encourage them to reconsider their path forward.
“The ACA remains one of my proudest votes in Congress and I will do everything that I can to protect this law and expand access to health care across our nation. We have made far too much progress to roll back a law that is covering more than 20 million Americans and saving lives.”
DeLauro is the Senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.
