DeLauro Statement on the Supreme Court’s Decision to Not Hear a Case on Connecticut’s Assault Weapons Ban

June 20, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (June 20, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court declining to hear a challenge to Connecticut’s law banning the sale and possession of assault weapons.

“The Supreme Court’s decision to not hear a challenge to one of the most commonsense gun violence prevention laws in the nation is a win for millions of Connecticut families. After numerous challenges by the gun industry, the Supreme Court has rejected appeals that an assault weapon ban is an assault on Second Amendment rights. Connecticut’s law is legal, and it is lifesaving. Congress must stand up to the NRA, enact a nationwide assault weapons ban, and take action that can help save lives.”
