U.S. Service Academy Nominations
An appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, or U.S. Coast Guard Academy is a distinct and rare honor. Acceptance of an academy appointment requires at least a nine-year service obligation, including four years at an academy and five years of active duty service. Service academies offer an excellent education for students interested in serving their country in the armed forces. Each year, Rosa has the privilege to nominate qualified Third District students for appointments to those service academies who require congressional nominations.
Please contact Nick Savaria in the New Haven office at (203) 562-3718 for more information.
Click here to download a copy of the 2025 application, in Microsoft Word format. The application includes all eligibility information and necessary requirements to complete the application.
Please submit all application materials in one complete package to Rosa’s Connecticut Office by Thursday October 15, 2020.
The academies consider evidence of character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, as well as personal goals and motivation in performing each nominee’s “whole-person” evaluation. These are also the criteria Rosa’s Academy Advisory Committee uses to evaluate and recommend nominations.
We encourage candidates from all backgrounds and experiences to apply if they are interested. For those that show leadership potential but may have academic difficulties, selection to a service academy preparatory school may be an option. Additionally, the service academies strongly encourage urban, minority, and female applicants to apply as these groups are underrepresented as officers in the Armed Services and our nation’s leadership should reflect the diversity of our people.
