Chair DeLauro Statement on International Women’s Day
WASHINGTON, DC — House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) issued the following statement in recognition of International Women's Day:
"On International Women's Day, I always think of my mother who lived until she was 103. As the child of immigrants, she began work at the age of 14 and continued to sacrifice all through her life so that I could one day have the honor of representing Connecticut in the United States House of Representatives.
"I think about the millions of women workers across this country who cannot take a day off, nor take time to be with their families for fear of losing their jobs or risking their pay for the day. And that is why I continue to fight for equal pay for equal work, the monthly Child Tax Credit, paid sick days, paid family and medical leave, high-quality healthcare, and affordable child care.
"I also pray for the billions of women globally, millions in Ukraine, fighting for the survival of their families and their country during this time of international crisis. We must do everything we can to support them.
"Today, and every day, I am committed to advancing equality and lifting up women and girls around the world. I learned from my mother to never take no for an answer, to never give up, and to empower others to make their voices heard. Let us continue to use our voices and make progress together."
