Chair DeLauro Statement on Sandy Hook Families’ Settlement with Remington Arms
NEW HAVEN – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on the settlement reached between the families of five adults and four children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and gun manufacturer Remington Arms:
"For the first time in the United States, a gun manufacturer has been held liable for a mass shooting. This is a historic day, one that would not be possible without the unparalleled courage and determination of the Sandy Hook families who, despite their unspeakable pain and grief, led this fight for nearly eight years.
"Like so many across Connecticut, I will never forget that cold, dark day in December when we lost 26 beautiful lives, 20 first-graders and six staff members. While nothing can heal the deep wounds, this victory is a positive step forward as we continue the fight to hold gun manufacturers accountable and collectively work to enact long-overdue legislation to keep guns out of the wrong hands."
