DeLauro on 1099 Tax Repeal Vote
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3), Ranking Member on the Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding today's vote on H.R. 4, the Small Business Paperwork Elimination Act. The bill would raise taxes on middle class Americans by a staggering $25 billion while repealing the burdensome 1099 reporting provision.
"I strongly support repealing the 1099 provision and believe it asks too much of our struggling small businesses, but at the cost of $25 billion in raised taxes on middle class families, I could not support this bill. I voted to repeal the 1099 provision in July 2010, and I voted yesterday to improve this bill by making sure that it did not raise taxes. But that vote failed, and I could not in good conscience vote for this bill while it still included such unfair tax increases. There is a better way to address this issue, which I support. Congressman Joe Courtney has introduced legislation that would repeal the flawed 1099 provision without harming low and low-middle income families."
