DeLauro on 6th Meat Recall of 2010

Washington, DC- Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today issued the following statement in reaction to the recall by Daniele International Inc., a Rhode Island company, of approximately 1,240,000 pounds of Italian sausage products due to possible Salmonella contamination.

"We are only 23 days into the New Year and this is already the 6th meat product that has been subjected to a recall. This is very discouraging and it demonstrates the work that lies ahead in the coming year.

"The work of the various agencies is to be applauded. However, it highlights the need for a single food safety agency at the federal level to maximize the great work being done by these scientists and investigators."
