June 26, 2024

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) announced that the New Haven Jewish Community Housing Corporation was awarded a $20 million grant under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) for the Towers at Tower Lane. This grant, part of a larger initiative supported by President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, aims to enhance energy efficiency and climate resilience for properties housing low-income individuals, families, and seniors.

"I am thrilled to announce $20 million to support improvements that will reduce utility costs for residents and the property, enhance living conditions, and contribute to broader environmental sustainability goals,” said Congresswoman DeLauro. "This funding – one of 17 awards nationwide – will enable us to make comprehensive upgrades that will include modernizing heating and cooling systems, improving insulation, installing energy-efficient windows, and implementing renewable energy solutions to The Towers at Tower Lane, ensuring that residents live in a healthier and more sustainable environment. It underscores our commitment to providing quality, affordable housing while addressing critical environmental challenges."

The Towers at Tower Lane, a property managed by The New Haven Jewish Community Housing Corporation, is dedicated to providing affordable housing solutions for low-income individuals and families in the New Haven area. Through innovative programs and partnerships, the organization aims to improve the quality of life for its residents while fostering a sense of community and well-being.

HUD's GRRP has awarded over $754 million to various projects across the nation, with the latest round of grants totaling more than $142 million for 17 properties. These funds are designated to assist properties with the highest need for climate resilience and utility efficiency upgrades. The Towers at Tower Lane is among 14 properties, which are part of HUD's Section 8 project-based rental assistance program for low-income individuals and families, receiving this substantial support.
