DELAURO ANNOUNCES $23 MILLION DOLLAR EXPORT DEAL FOR WALLINGFORD COMPANY
New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson, representatives from theU.S. Department of Commerce, and the leaders of I2S, a Wallingford-based manufacturer, announced a $23 million dollar export deal today.
I2S produces and maintains cold rollingmills used to shape and strengthen metal products such as sheet metaland metal rods and bars. Representing about 20,000 man hours of work,this deal will strengthen I2S's business, create and maintaingood-paying Connecticut jobs, and augment the state's role as a leaderin the manufacturing industry. I2S will manufacture and ship coldrolling mills to Fuxing Precision Stainless Steel and Guanguan CopperStrip, two Chinese companies.
This $23 million export deal was madepossible by a U.S. Department of Commerce trade mission to China.Congresswoman DeLauro worked with I2S and the U.S. Department ofCommerce to secure the necessary visas for representatives from theChinese companies to visit IS2, view their products, and secure thedeal.
"If we are going to bring about the real, lasting economic recovery that America needs, we must support ourdomestic manufacturing. We have to go back to being a country thatbuilds things here at home, rather just buying things made overseas--and I2S is making that happen. This $23 million in contracts will meanmore good, well-paying jobs in Connecticut, more money in Americans'pockets, and more economic growth for our area," said CongresswomanDeLauro. "More exports are what we need right now, and I will continueto work to see that we in government are doing all that we can toincrease our exports by advocating for local businesses, increasingtheir access to much-needed credit, and ensuring a level playing fieldin the global markets."
