DeLauro Announces Early Learning, Child Care Grants for Connecticut
Funds Secured by DeLauro in Last Year’s Government Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today joined President Barack Obama at the White House for a discussion on early learning. The event came on the heels of an announcement that Connecticut has received a $12.499 million grant for preschool education. Training, Education and Manpower, Inc. of Derby, and LULAC Head Start and United Way of Greater New Haven also won grants to expand access to Early Head Start and child care. A full listing of the grants can be found at the bottom of this release.
“Early childhood education, and the dedicated teachers who serve in those classrooms, enrich the lives of our youngest citizens and their families. Early Head Start, in particular, is one of our most successful anti-poverty, pro-education programs. Access to quality, affordable child care is a cornerstone of efforts to ensure all children have a positive learning environment while their parents are at work. I applaud the recipients of these grants and am humbled to be able to have played a role in making these expansions happen.”
Connecticut was one of 18 states awarded a preschool development grant for increased access today. You can find more information on the Preschool Development Grants program here.
The grants are as follows:
• $12,499,000 for preschool expansion across Connecticut. Third District towns receiving funds are: Derby, East Haven, Hamden, Naugatuck and Seymour
