DeLauro Announces a Grant for West Haven VA
Washington, DC –Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) announced today that the West Haven Veterans' Affairs Center was selected as one of nine institutions to receive $6 million in funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs which is partnering with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research into the link between substance abuse and military deployments and combat-related trauma.
The funds will be used to examine patterns treatment—from when and why veterans ask for help, to how this timing affects outcomes, and treatment strategies and successes. Caring for our veterans' mental health is a critical part of the Department of Veterans' Affairs' role.
"All of our men and women in uniform should be receiving the highest quality health care, and that includes mental health—we have a moral obligation to our troops and veterans who have risked their lives for our nation. I recently held a roundtable discussion at the West Haven Veterans' center about how to ensure that our brave soldiers get the care they deserve," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "This study will help to improve how we support and care for them, and I look forward to seeing the results."
