DELAURO ANNOUNCES JOB CREATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY ACT
Bill could create up to 1 million jobs, spur private sector growth
New Haven, CT — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) announced the Job Creation and Energy Efficiency Act today, which will create jobs and support private sector growth through the retrofitting of existing buildings to increase their energy efficiency.
This new legislation will create a program through the Department of Energy to give businesses and local governments access to low interest financing for energy efficiency retrofits of existing buildings. The loans would be paid off by the energy savings generated. By incentivizing energy efficiency retrofits, the Job Creation and Energy Efficiency Act will create up to 1 million jobs in the construction and manufacturing industry, stimulating the private sector while helping businesses and local governments reduce their energy consumption and save money.
"Small businesses like Lighting Quotient are the engine of our economy, where the vast majority of new jobs are created. That is why we need the public and private sectors working together to give small businesses and entrepreneurs the ability to get off the ground and expand. We need to create more jobs in Connecticut and all across America. Nothing is more important to our economy right now," said Congresswoman DeLauro.
"If we are going to remain the economically competitive manufacturing center Connecticut has always been, we have to keep transitioning to a cleaner, greener, and more energy-efficient economy. The work done here at Lighting Quotient is helping to lead the way. But there is more we can do to create jobs and to move forward on energy efficiency initiatives that strengthen our economy and protect our environment. That is why, this week, I will be introducing the Job Creation and Energy Efficiency Act.
"This bill will spur job creation in the construction sector, as well as at manufacturers like Lighting Quotient, and help businesses, schools, colleges, apartment buildings, hospitals, and local governments save energy costs. This bill is another important piece of the jobs puzzle, and will create jobs and move us closer to the energy efficient economy we need."
