DeLauro Announces More Than $25,000 for Stratford Fire Department

June 11, 2021

STRATFORD, CT — House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today announced $25,996 in Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) for Stratford Fire Department firefighter training. This grant is one of 27 awards nationwide from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) included in Round 1 of fiscal year 2020 AFG.

"Losing City of New Haven firefighter Ricardo Torres last month was a tragic reminder of the unmatched bravery of Connecticut's firefighters and their commitment to risking their lives to protect our communities," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "Their service must be met with federal investments that provide them with the tools and training they need to do their job safely. I am thrilled the Stratford Fire Department is one of the recipients of this funding. These funds help support the brave men and women working every day to protect us."

"We are grateful for the support of FEMA and Congresswoman DeLauro with this AFG funding opportunity," said Town of Stratford Fire Chief Brian Lampart. "Stratford applied for the grant to enhance our Rescue Operations Training to help us further prepare for situations that put the people we serve and our firefighters at risk of severe injury, such as rescues on a steep embankment alongside I-95, beneath a bridge over the Housatonic River, or up high on a cell tower. This grant will help us continue to elevate our standards of service and readiness for our community and region."

As the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, the committee that determines discretionary federal spending, Congresswoman DeLauro will continue to fight for robust investments to support Connecticut's firefighters and fire departments.
