DeLauro Announces More Than $550,000 in NeighborWorks Grants to Develop and Preserve Affordable Housing

February 20, 2021

NEW HAVEN, CT – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today announced $552,500 in federal grants for NeighborWorks affordable housing developments in Connecticut's Third Congressional District. Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven, Inc., (NHS) and Mutual Housing Association of South Central Connecticut, Inc., will receive $290,000 and $262,500, respectively. The major federal award comes as the coronavirus pandemic has increased the need for safe, affordable housing across Connecticut.

"Homeownership is a part of achieving the American Dream," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "The expansion of homeownership stabilizes and enriches our communities. As Connecticut continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, countless families are at risk of losing access to housing. It is now, more important than ever, that we boost efforts to create jobs, sustain neighborhoods, and expand access to high quality affordable housing. I applaud Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven and Mutual Housing Association of South Central Connecticut for their tireless efforts to revitalize communities. Their work has changed lives. I thank NeighborWorks America for awarding these grants and continuing to support Connecticut's families."

NeighborWorks America is a public nonprofit organization established by Congress in 1978 that supports and enhances a network of nearly 240 local and regional nonprofit partner NeighborWorks organizations that develop local solutions to community development and affordable housing in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
