DeLauro Announces Nearly $1 Million in Assistance to Firefighters Grants for Middletown, West Haven, and North Branford
NEW HAVEN, CT — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today announced a total of $988,632 in Assistance to Firefighters Grants for Middletown, West Haven, and North Branford to enhance existing firefighting abilities and greater protect the people of Connecticut’s third Congressional District.
“Ensuring that our firefighters have the best equipment is critical to protecting the people of Connecticut from the devastating impacts of fires and other emergencies,” said Congresswoman DeLauro. “These significant grants, greater than what they have been in the past, will prepare our first responders for the lifesaving work of fighting and preventing fires. These brave men and women are working every day to protect us, and this federal funding plays an important role in guaranteeing they have the tools they need to do their job safely and effectively.”
This funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will support the following projects:
- Connecticut State Fire Training Academy in Middletown, CT, received $434,782 for vehicle and aerial apparatus acquisition.
- West Shore Fire District in West Haven, CT, received $43,100 for an air compressor, breathing apparatus refill system.
- North Branford Fire Department in North Branford, CT, received $510,750 for portable radios.
As a senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee, the committee that determines federal spending, Congresswoman DeLauro was able to secure this funding in the 2019 Homeland Security bill. Congresswoman DeLauro will continue to fight for robust investments to support Connecticut’s firefighters and fire departments.
