DeLauro Applauds $2.1 Million Grant for Wallingford Green Energy Partnership

September 22, 2010

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) announced today that Proton Energy Systems has been awarded a $2,148,719 Department of Energy grant to partner with Pennsylvania State University in developing a high-efficiency fuel cell.

Based in Wallingford since 1996, Proton Energy Systems designs and manufactures electrochemical systems using a proton exchange membrane (PEM) to produce safe, reliable hydrogen from water. This inventive process produces zero pollution and has established the company as a world leader in hydrogen energy. Proton Energy Systems provides hydrogen to the U.S. military, aerospace, fueling, and renewable energy industries.

Penn State University is one of the leading research universities in the country, and has a long history of research dating back to their first president, Evan Pugh, who established a laboratory in 1859.

"This public-private partnership focuses on cutting-edge technology and solutions, and I am pleased that Proton Energy Systems has been honored with this grant. Their extraordinary innovations in hydrogen energy have established the company as a world leader in the energy industry," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "I am certain that this partnership will bring great results and advances in energy technologies, and I am proud that Proton Energy Systems is at the forefront of the clean energy industry."
