DeLauro Applauds Connecticut Gun Violence Prevention Legislation
Bill Signed by Governor Malloy Will Strengthen CT Laws
NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released thefollowing statement applauding the gun violence prevention legislation passedby the state legislature and signed into law today by Governor Malloy. DeLaurohas been an advocate for stronger laws to prevent future gun violence.
"This is a proud day for the state of Connecticut. Nearlyfour months ago President Obama asked if we were doing enough to keep ourchildren safe from harm. The answer then was clearly no. But Democrats andRepublicans in Connecticut have come together and taken a first step to changethat.
"Now Congress needs to act. For one state's actions are notenough to keep children safe when there are 50 different sets of laws. I urgemy colleagues to follow Connecticut's example and set our differences aside toagree on common-sense solutions so that no one has to suffer as the families inNewtown, Aurora, Tucson, Blacksburg and too many others have."
