DeLauro Applauds Final Passage of Violence Against Women Act

Bill Now Heads to President Obama's Desk



WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) applauded final passage ofthe Violence Against Women Act. The bill, passed by the House ofRepresentatives today, now heads to President Obama's desk to be signed intolaw. DeLauro is a longtime supporter of ensuring all women have the ability tobe safe and secure in their daily lives.



"We should have taken this action some 500 days ago, but it is good news thatAmerica will once again have a strong Violence Against Women Act. Since the Actfirst passed in 1994, it has changed the landscape for American women. Domesticviolence has dropped by over 50 percent. This bipartisan bill modernizes theAct for our times, consolidates programs, and takes additional steps to reachvictims of domestic violence.



"I was proud to stand with my colleagues today and pass the Violence AgainstWomen Act, ensuring essential protections that have made a difference for somany women. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and the 113th Congresswill continue working in a bipartisan fashion to address the significant issuesfacing our nation."
