DeLauro Applauds Grant for The WorkPlace
$299,670 from US Department Of Labor Will HelpVeterans Reintegrate
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) todayapplauded the news The WorkPlace, Inc. has been awarded $299,670 from the USDepartment of Labor. The grants were awarded through the Homeless VeteransReintegration Program (HVRP) and will go towards job training, job placement,housing and other services.
"As a nation, we have an obligation to ensure that the bravemen and women who serve our country have a place to live and access toopportunities for a good, well-paying job. We have to be sure we are doingeverything possible to facilitate the transition from the battlefield back tothe job market. These grants will go a long way towards easing thattransition."
The HVRP grants will help homeless veterans reintegrate intosociety and the labor force while providing effective services aimed ataddressing the complex challenges that homeless veterans often confront. Theservices provided by grantees will include job placement, on-the-job training,career counseling, life skills and money management mentoring, as well as helpin finding housing.
Funds were awarded on a competitive basis to state and localworkforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations,which have demonstrated that they can administer effective programs to helpveterans. The Workplace, Inc. is one of Connecticut's nine Regional WorkforceDevelopment Boards that assesses regional employment and training needs andcoordinates workforce development policies and programs to meet them.
