DeLauro Applauds Movement on Connecticut Equal Pay Study
Recognizes Equal Pay Day, Women's Salary Equals Men'sFrom Previous Year
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) releasedthe following statement today applauding the Permanent Commission on the Statusof Women's inclusion in an ongoing study into pay equity in Connecticut. InJanuary Governor Dannel Malloy directed state officials to conduct the studyinto what factors contribute to the gender-based wage gap and how to addressit.
"The Permanent Commission on the Status of Women has a longhistory of calling attention to pay equity and giving its unbiased view on howwe can change a world where women make just 77 cents for every dollar earned bytheir male colleagues. Today's recognition of Equal Pay Day is a reminder ofthe persistent inequities that women face in the workforce. The wage gap doesnot just harm women; it threatens their families' financial stability. Withwomen bringing home an increasingly bigger share of family income, smallerpaychecks hurt their spouses and children, as well as the entire economy. Ilook forward to seeing the results of Connecticut's efforts."
