DeLauro Applauds NEA Grants for Arts Institutions

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) todayreleased the following statement applauding the National Endowment for theArts' (NEA) grants to six arts institutions in New Haven. Architecture ResourceCenter, Elm Shakespeare Company, Music Haven, New Haven International Festivalof Arts & Ideas, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, and Yale University willreceive grants totaling $210,000.

"I congratulate these organizations on their prestigiousawards, and have been fortunate to work closely with each of them over theyears. Not only will these grants support creative work and arts education inNew Haven, but they will have the added benefit of investing in the localeconomy. I am grateful to the NEA for their role in making vital creative workpart of life in New Haven and look forward to the success of their continuedcontributions to our community."

DeLauro is a longtime supporter of the arts and their rolein strengthening communities.

The six organizations were among more than 800 nationwide toreceive grants totaling over $26 million, including $4 million for artseducation. DeLauro extends her congratulations to:

Architecture Resource Center--$10,000 to expand Designconnections, a design education professional development initiative.

Elm Shakespeare Company--$10,000 for a Shakespeareproduction with accompanying educational and outreach activities.

Music Haven--$25,000 for a tuition-free, year-long,after-school music residency of the Haven String Quartet.

New Haven International Festival of Arts &Ideas--$65,000 for Arts & Ideas: Cornerstone Projects.

New Haven Symphony Orchestra--$20,000 for anartist-in-residence project featuring composer Christopher Theofanidis, theworld premiere of a new work by Theofanidis, and a technology initiative.

Yale University--$80,000 for research and restoration of TheMadonna and Child with Saints Jerome and Vincent Ferrer by FlorentineRenaissance painter Piero di Cosimo (1462-1522).
