DeLauro Applauds Over $11 Million in Additional Sandy Funds for 3rd Congressional District
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today applauding the State of Connecticut for releasing over $11 million in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) funding to ten projects in five Third District communities. The funding is part of the $16 billion for the CDBG program included in the Sandy Disaster Relief bill DeLauro championed and Congress passed in January of 2013.
“Hurricane Sandy was one of the most severe storms to hit Connecticut in our state’s history. The catastrophic coastal flooding and damaging winds surpassed the levels of the Hurricane of 1938. All across our region, lives were upended, homes and businesses were destroyed, and the shoreline was completely reshaped.
“I am pleased $11million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will now be available for infrastructure and long-term resilience projects in New Haven, East Haven, West Haven, Milford and Stratford. This money will go toward larger flood and hazard mitigation projects which will mitigate the impact of future disasters.
“Money is still needed to repair and rebuild homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure projects. Over two years later there is a lot of work to do and resources required to do it. I will continue to fight to ensure that Connecticut gets the Federal support we need.”
Projects receiving funding include:
East Haven, Hemingway and Cove Avenue Reconstruction to provide an evacuation route— $1,241,831
Milford, Essential Generator for shelter operations at Jonathan Law High School--$161,250
Milford, Calf Pen Meadow/Beachland Avenue Resiliency — $638,250
Milford, Bayview Beach Area Flooding Control — $1,326,150
