DELAURO APPLAUDS PAID SICK DAYS LAW IN CONNECTICUT
New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement in recognition of Connecticut's paid sick day law going into effect on January 1, 2012.
Congresswoman DeLauro introduced the Healthy Families Act, federal paid sick day legislation, in 2004. This bill would enable workers to earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, adding up to 7 days' worth of paid leave.
"There are nearly 40 million American workers that currently do not have one day of paid sick leave—but I am very proud to say that this is no longer true in Connecticut. As of the first day of this new year, workers in the service sector in our state has the ability to take care of themselves and their families if they are sick without having to worry about losing their jobs. It is in the best interests of our state, our nation, and especially our families to ensure that every American has access to paid sick days, and I am proud that Connecticut is helping to lead the way on this critical issue."
