DELAURO APPLAUDS SOCIAL SECURITY COLA INCREASE
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement today in response to the Social Security Administration's announcement that Social Security beneficiaries will receive an increase in their Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for the first time in three years.
Approximately 55 million Americans rely on Social Security benefits, including 42.5 million seniors, 10.5 million disabled Americans, and 2 million surviving spouses.
"Social Security ties generations together, and is a promise made to millions of American workers that after decades of service, they can rely upon its safety net in retirement. This COLA increase is a simple adjustment but critical to keeping that promise, and will enable millions of Americans to pay their bills, buy groceries, and keep their homes. I have consistently fought to protect Social Security, and the benefits that it provides to so many—and will continue to do so in the face of Republican budget cuts that threaten to dismantle this essential lifeline."
