DeLauro Attends Annual Meeting of CT Chapter of the American College of Surgeons
Receives Legislator of the Year Award
FARMINGTON, CT – At today’s annual meeting, the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Surgeons recognized Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) with the Legislator of the Year Award citing her longstanding and overall commitment to quality healthcare.
“As some of you know, my work on health care issues is personal for me. A nearly 30-year survivor of ovarian cancer, I know only too well the importance of quality healthcare.” said DeLauro in accepting the award. “I was fortunate that the cancer was detected in its earliest stages, purely by chance. I received excellent care and will be forever grateful for the doctors and nurses that cared for me.
“I arrived in Congress knowing firsthand the crucial importance of good health and quality care. And I came determined to focus on ensuring that all Americans had the same access to good care I had,” continued DeLauro.
Successor organization to The Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, Inc. (CTACS) which was founded in 1967, The Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Professional Association, Inc. (CTACSPA) was organized in 2005 to promote the aims, interests, ideals and programs of the American College of Surgeons and to advocate for surgeons and patients in Connecticut.
Past recipient of the Legislator of the Year Award include Congressman Joseph Courtney (2014), Congressman Prasad Srinivasan (2013), Senator Richard Blumenthal (2012), then Congressman Chris Murphy (2011), then General Assembly Speaker of the House Christopher Donovan (2010), and State Representative James Shapiro (2009).
