DeLauro on BPA Report

January 15, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to the report issued by the FDA stating that Bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial chemical used to harden plastic products, may not be safe for young children.

Bisphenol A (BPA) has been present in hard plastic bottles, metal-based food and beverage cans, and items such as CDs and sunglasses, for decades.

"After years of having the science on the potential dangers of BPA dismissed or completely ignored, it is reassuring that the FDA now is acknowledging that there is concern for its health effects on infants and children. I urge the FDA to aggressively pursue further answers on BPA through sound, independent research."
