DeLauro Calls for Quick Response to Hurricane Harvey
WASHINGTON, DC (August 31, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement calling for Congress to quickly respond to Hurricane Harvey.
“The human tragedy in Texas due to Hurricane Harvey is unprecedented and requires an immediate response from Congress. It is one of the worst storms the United States has experienced,” said DeLauro. “With the rescue effort underway, we must begin to make families and businesses impacted by the storm whole again. It is a challenge far beyond what any family or business can deal with on their own. That is why, in times of crisis and natural disasters, citizens turn to the federal government for help.”
“Congress has a moral responsibility to save and rebuild the lives of those affected,” continued DeLauro. “In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy we fought vigorously to fund relief efforts, and the time has come once again to help those in need. I am heartened by the bipartisan spirit arising to respond to this crisis, and confident that we will get this done.”
