DeLauro Celebrates 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush on July 26, 1990.
“Twenty-five years ago the historic Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on the principle of inclusion and the premise of expanding access and opportunities for all. This anniversary is an occasion to recommit to ensuring that every American has the opportunity to live independently and with dignity and to contribute to their communities and our country. I am proud of the progress the law has made for Americans with disabilities, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to make sure we continue that progress for years to come.”
The bipartisan Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in employment, state and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation.
