DeLauro Celebrates Earth Day
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) today celebrated the 40th annual Earth Day and the progress our country has made in supporting a clean energy economy, creating jobs, strengthening our national security, and preserving our environment.
Founded to ensure everyone can enjoy a healthy, sustainable environment, Earth Day seeks to engage people worldwide in their efforts. With more than 1 billion people participating in Earth Day activities, it is the largest event of its kind in the world.
By making investments in clean energy sources, such as the nearly $70 billion included in the Recovery Act, this Congress has made historic advances in supporting domestic energy producers and lowering our dependence on foreign oil.
"Around the country and in my home state of Connecticut, major technological advances in clean and renewable energy sources are helping to build the foundation of our economic future and ensure our national security. We have worked hard to make sure that we are producing energy that creates jobs, frees us from dangerous dependencies on foreign energy sources, and protects the air we breathe and the water we drink. Earth Day serves as a reminder of how important these efforts are, and I look forward to continuing to work towards a cleaner and greener future."
