DeLauro Celebrates New Funding for Connecticut Bridges Secured in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
This is the Largest Investment in Our Nation's Bridges Since the Creation of the Interstate Highway System
NEW HAVEN — House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration announced that Connecticut will receive nearly $112.3 million in new funding this fiscal year, part of $561.5 million in federal funding for Connecticut over the next five years from formula funding for bridges under in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:
"This historic new funding is not simply an investment in our nation's bridges. We are investing in opportunity, jobs, and economic growth for people in Connecticut and across the country. This is an exciting moment when we see the funds of the recently passed Bipartisan Infrastructure Law directed to projects here in Connecticut that now have the opportunity to get across the finish line.
"Today, thanks to the leadership of President Biden and House Democrats, the U.S. Department of Transportation launched the historic Bridge Replacement, Rehabilitation, Preservation, Protection, and Construction Program. While Connecticut has made several improvements to our state's infrastructure over the years, the nearly $561.5 million provided to Connecticut over the next five years for bridges will help us continue those efforts. This funding will allow Connecticut to replace the I-91 bridge over the Quinnipiac River by Exit 8 or anywhere where Route 1 passes over water, increase safety among our commuters, ensure that our bridges are in quality condition, and provide new opportunities for connectivity across the state and elsewhere.
"This is just the beginning of many infrastructure improvements we can expect to see across the state, all while providing good-paying jobs to people right here in Connecticut."
