DeLauro Celebrates Women’s Equality Day

August 26, 2015

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today celebrating Women’s Equality Day:

“Ninety-five years ago the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified as law and women were granted the right to vote. Today is a day for celebration, as we recognize the strides women have made in all walks of life--from business to education to politics. But our work is not done.

“Women, and their families, still face tremendous economic pressures. Women earn an average of just 78 cents for every dollar a man does, are less likely than men to have paid sick days or family leave to take care of themselves or their family and disproportionately bear the burden of finding quality, affordable child care.

“We still have a ways to go and much to do before women enjoy the same economic security as men. Today I redouble the pledge to continue fighting for the Paycheck Fairness Act, Healthy Families Act, FAMILY Act and other policies that will help ensure women and their families can get ahead.”
