DELAURO COMMENDS SAVESTRATFORD AND EPA FOR CONTINUED EFFORTS TO FIND A SOLUTION THAT MAKES SENSE FOR RAYMARK SITE
New Haven, CT - Today, officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) met with town officials and representatives of concerned citizens groups to discuss the Agency's report on the proposed use of thermochemical conversion in the remediation plans for the remaining contamination associated with the Raymark Superfund site. Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro released the following statement regarding the status of the remediation plans.
"I am pleased that the EPA has taken a serious look at how this technology can be used to address the remaining remediation of Raymark waste that needs to be done here in Stratford. I commend SaveStratford and the Town for their continued efforts to find a solution that makes sense for this community. While there are still some outstanding questions that will need to be answered by the company that has developed this technology and the community, this is a positive first step."
Congresswoman DeLauro has been working with town administrations and local citizens groups in Stratford since 1993 towards the full remediation of the Raymark Superfund site. While the original site of Raymark Industries and the impacted residential properties were fully remediated early on in the process, several commercial and recreational sites still remain. At the request of local residents, she has advocated with the EPA to ensure that the citizens of Stratford have had a voice in the development of the plans for the remaining remediation.
