DeLauro Comments on NLRB Recess Appointments Appeals Court Decision
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement on today's appeals court decision invalidatingPresident Obama's recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board(NLRB). DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible forfunding the Labor Department.
"This is yet another erroneous court decision squarely atodds with longstanding practice. Presidents of both parties have routinely madehundreds of recess appointments during intra-session recesses and withoutregard to when the vacancy first arose. That includes four such NLRBrecess appointments by President Reagan and four by the second President Bush.
"The best solution to today's decision is not a prolongedcourt battle, but a functioning confirmation process. Senate Republicans shouldstop blocking nominees and threatening filibusters and start allowing qualifiednominees an up or down vote."
