DeLauro Condemns Trump Administration’s Continued Assault on ERS & NIFA Employees and Mission
WASHINGTON, DC (June 13, 2019) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced the final site selection for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service (ERS) and National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
“Today’s announcement of the final site selection for ERS and NIFA is a setback for sound science within food and agriculture communities. As I have said from the beginning, the proposed moved threatens the integrity and impartiality of vital government research areas—including food safety, poverty and nutrition assistance programs, and farm economics and rural development. More than that, the Trump USDA’s actions have also disrespected and damaged the lives of hardworking government employees who have dedicated their careers to public service. My office has received many personal stories from ERS and NIFA workers who have been disregarded over the last year. My message to them is simple: this battle is long from over and I will continue to fight for the rights of workers and the integrity of government research.”
