DeLauro Condemns USDA Action Rolling Back School Meals Nutrition Standards

November 30, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (November 30, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement condemning the Trump administration's recent move to rollback nutrition standards for school meals.

"Today, USDA Secretary Perdue doubled down on his decision to put special interests ahead of the health of America's children. Healthy school meals are essential to children's success in school, and our previous, bipartisan nutrition standards were designed to achieve that success. Yet Secretary Purdue and President Trump's latest action will hinder the hard-won progress we have made on childhood obesity and malnutrition."

"Allowing less healthy food in schools puts us on a path towards weakening the school breakfast and lunch programs. The USDA should immediately reverse this decision and recommit to protecting our children's health and well-being."
