April 30, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today on new findings by ConsumerReports detailing bacterial contamination of ground turkey sold in grocerystores across the country. The report also found that much of the bacteria weredrug-resistant.

"Consumer Reports' findings reinforce why now is notthe time to cut back on funding for our food safety system. And it isclear that we must do more to protect American consumers from dangerouspathogens in their food. This includes strengthening the standards related toSalmonella in poultry products so that no family has to worry their dinner willmake them sick. I will keep fighting for the public health, includingimprovements to these performance standards."
