DeLauro Denounces Ivanka Trump’s Support for Anti-Equal Pay Initiative

August 31, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (August 31, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement following Ivanka Trump's support for the Trump Administration's stay on collecting equal pay data.

"Fresh off the heels of Women's Equality Day, President Trump halted a crucial equal pay data collection initiative. Now, Ivanka Trump—a supposed proponent for equal pay—has come out in support of this latest action. That is simply inexcusable," said DeLauro. "Women face tremendous economic pressures, earning just 80 cents for every dollar a man makes on average. They need the backing and support of stakeholders and leaders at every level of government, not just talk and backtracking.

"Regardless of what the Trumps and the big corporations rigging our economy against women believe, women deserve equal pay for equal work. Excuses like the burden of paperwork or splitting hairs about what qualifies as equal work are a complete ruse, used only to deny women the money they have earned," continued DeLauro. "That is why I will continue fighting for women's equality through the Paycheck Fairness Act, to ensure women achieve lasting economic security."
