DeLauro Denounces Senate Passage of Republican Tax Cut Bill
WASHINGTON, DC (December 2, 2017) - Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement in response to the Senate passing the Republicans' bill cutting taxes for millionaires, billionaires, and corporations while raising taxes on middle class families.
"The Senate version of the Republicans' tax cut bill that passed today suffers from the same defects as the House version. This bill is a giveaway to millionaires, billionaires, and corporate special interests and rigs the tax code for them at the expense of the middle class. It will continue the outsourcing of good paying jobs by allowing corporations to skip paying taxes on profits earned through their outsourcing. That outsourcing drives down wages and salaries here at home—hurting middle class families that work hard and play by the rules."
"Instead of spending $1.5 trillion on tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, Republicans should join Democrats in our efforts to create an economy that works for all Americans. Democrats are fighting to create good paying jobs that cannot be outsourced by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, expanding access to early childhood education, and equipping workers with the skills they need through job training and apprenticeship programs. The Republican tax sham would not accomplish any of these goals."
