DeLauro Denounces Trump Proposal for a Taxpayer-Funded Border Wall

WASHINGTON, DC (January 5, 2018) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement in response to reports that President Trump is requesting nearly $18 billion in taxpayer funding for his planned border wall.

"President Trump has come a long way from his campaign promise to build a wall along our southern border and have Mexico pay for it. He and his administration have resorted to asking the American taxpayers to fund their nonsensical border wall—a complete waste of $18 billion."

"The American people want us to enact comprehensive immigration reform that creates a path to citizenship for the law-abiding, protects Americans workers, and truly secures our border. If Congressional Republicans come to the table, we can solve this problem once and for all instead of continuing to break families apart and leave them in the shadows of a broken immigration system."
