DELAURO: FOURTH CASE OF MAD COW DISEASE REINFORCES NEED FOR ROBUST ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM
Washington, DC – Today Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) reiterated the need for a national animal identification system in the United States. Congresswoman DeLauro urged the United States Department of Agriculture to implement a national animal identification system for the major livestock species when she was Chairwoman of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.
"Yesterday's announcement of the fourth case of BSE, or mad cow disease, in the United States clearly highlights the need for a comprehensive national animal identification system," said DeLauro. "We were lucky to identify this case, but we must invest in a strong national identification system that has the potential to improve animal traceability and ensure the health of our domestic livestock."
