$400,000 Grant Will Go to Mental Health Support for Homeless

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) today heralded the announcement by the Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) that $400,000 has been granted to Liberty Community Services, Inc. to aid their mental health support program for the homeless.

"Since 1987, Liberty Community Services has been working on the ground in New Haven to help the city's homeless residents get the resources they need," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "This timely grant will aid their efforts to provide mental health support for those citizens that need it and help New Haven's homeless get back on their feet."

Liberty Community Services, Inc. is a supportive housing and services provider offering dignity, compassion, and respect to Connecticut's residents confronting homelessness and disability. With administrative offices in New Haven and residential programs serving the entire region, Liberty's proven successful model of housing with support services helps change the lives of hundreds of people in need every year.

The $400,000 grant is part of a larger program by SAMSHA to award grants totaling almost $81.5 million over five years to local organizations throughout the country working to end chronic homelessness in their communities.
