DELAURO HONORS “ROSA’S READERS” PARTICIPANTS
340 students from 19 schools across the 3rd Congressional District read 20 books each over the school year
New Haven, CT –Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) met with 340 first graders from 19 schools across Connecticut's 3rd District today to recognize their achievements in participating in the "Rosa's Readers" program this year.
The program, which was established in 2000 to encourage interest in reading outside of the classroom, challenges students to read 20 books over of the course of the school year. Congresswoman DeLauro presented each child with a Certificate of Accomplishment and a commemorative bookmark, designed by one of the children, at the ceremony today. Over 6,800 local students have participated in the program since its inception.
"There is no more important responsibility than ensuring the next generation of Americans has the tools and opportunities they need to realize their dreams, and a quality education is a key part of that. By encouraging children to read, it is my hope that all of "Rosa's Readers" will develop a lifelong love of reading and learning that will help them succeed. I am proud to recognize all of our students today for their achievements, as well as the parents and teachers who supported them along the way."
